Why I Carry a Gun – One Woman’s Story
I still have trouble driving down that road today, nearly two years later. A place where I once enjoyed fresh air, sunshine and hearing the pavement under my feet is now a place that brings anxiety as I remember that warm fall day. I’m lucky to be alive, I think to myself.
As a young woman living in the country, I always felt safe. Car doors went unlocked, we knew our neighbors by name and peering over the fence in our yard were the faces of horses and cows. Growing up, I was an avid runner, cyclist and went about my day without spending one moment thinking or feeling as though my life was in danger.
